Construction Labourer

Job Description

This position involves working with your hands in a variety of construction work, including using basic hand and power tools. Some tasks include mixing concrete; painting and plastering; installing drywall, assisting with framing, flooring, building decks, roofing, etc. Setting up and cleaning up of work sites is also required.

Ability to follow safety procedures while producing quality results is important. Must have basic construction knowledge such as blueprint reading, tools and equipment, and safety procedures. Must be able to follow instructions, perform work quickly and efficiently, demanding excellence in quality of work. Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks.

Job Duties:

  • Perform Manual labour including heavy lifting
  • Perform tasks involving physical labor at different types of construction projects
  • Operate hand and power tools of all types
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment required to complete construction projects
  • Clear work areas, and bring materials to workers with specific skills
  • Do Dump runs, as required
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
  • Operate various tools including: chainsaws, jackhammers, laser levels, measurement equipment, shovels, hammers, drills, etc.
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • Highly alert, and demonstrates problem solving skills
  • Driven to improve efficiencies, with ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail in technical specifications and written communication.
  • Intuitive, critical thinker
  • Highly structured in organization and time management, demonstrating initiative

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with excellent stamina
  • Work outdoors in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold
  • Ability to work at heights or in small spaces, from time to time

Experience:

Minimum 2+ years in residential construction (Preferred)

Education:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Preference given to candidates with 2 or more years’ experience in the construction industry.

Schedule/Hours:

  • Starting ASAP
  • 8-10 hour shift
  • Hourly Position with full-time hours year round, potential for full-time permanent

 Salary:

$20-$25/hr

Licence:

Driver’s license and own vehicle for travel to and from job sites. (Required)
